An avid hunter and sportsman, Bob Miars found himself at a Ducks Unlimited
charity auction in October of 2000. Only recently retired, he had been
seriously considering returning to his boyhood love of horses and riding,
but had not yet taken any significant steps in that direction. That was
soon to change. By the end of the auction, Bob found himself to be not
merely a proud horse owner, but the owner of a VERY special horse that
would lead him out of retirement and into a rewarding new career.
The young gelding Bob purchased was actually a straight Egyptian Arabian
named The Tyrant, bred by Arabians LTD of Waco TX. When he contacted Arabians
LTD for the paperwork to transfer ownership, he was invited to their Newcomer's
Conference, an event designed to introduce people to the value and historical
significance of straight Egyptian Arabians. At the end of the conference,
Bob knew that he wanted more than simple horse ownership; he wanted to
be a significant part of the stewardship and continuation of the straight
Egyptian Arabian bloodlines. Simply put, Bob Miars was inspired to start
his own Egyptian breeding program.

To understand the approach Bob took to his new career as a breeder of
straight Egyptian Arabians, one must know where he began. An architect
by training and by trade, Bob quickly became a partner in a construction
and development corporation, and later a principle owner in the Dallas-based
Harvey Hotels. It is important to note that in all these efforts, he was
not only the planner / builder, but also the owner / operator of the finished
buildings. This hands-on involvement in all phases of a creative project
carries on into his Egyptian breeding program.
Scottsdale 2001 found Bob and his wife Sue looking avidly at the horses
in competition, the breeders who created them, and the barns in the Scottsdale
area that housed them. By March 2001, Bob and his wife Sue had purchased
700 acres of land in Athens TX, about 2 hours southeast of the Dallas
metroplex. Within 6 months, the land was complete with 250 acres of grazing,
pastures, and a 20 stall barn. The land is further utilized as a ranch,
with a 100 acre Coastal Bermuda hay meadow, a herd of Black Angus cattle,
and 350 acres of native forest with several miles of horse riding trails.

In the meantime, Bob was hard at work on the foundation of his own breeding
program. Right from that Newcomer's Conference at Arabians LTD, Bob knew
that breeding was a financially sensible way to ask these horses to help
pay for themselves, while satisfying his creative instincts. Further,
had simply fallen in love with the breed and their unique history, the
incredible community of people that owned them, and with the potential
to move to the country. However, he knew that he wanted to excel as a
breeder, to create something of lasting value, and this required expert
knowledge.
A straight Egyptian mare of top bloodlines, with a proven production
record, commands an exorbitant price IF she is for sale at all. Therefore,
to remain cost-effective without compromising on quality, Bob chose to
select from the fillies out of those proven mares. Going forward, he committed
to careful search and inspection of available Egyptian stallions, to research
of bloodlines, and to cultivating relationships with mentors qualified
to assist with his breeding decisions.

Miars Egyptian Arabians now breeding stock now consists of
eleven mares. They have further invested in two lifetime
breedings to the straight Egyptian stallion Thee Desperado, and
are majority owners in the straight Egyptian stallion Insignia
DeSha. They aim to continue the legacy they have inherited, and
contribute to the historical significance of the Straight Egyptian,
through careful selection of stallions to match these mares, and
through presenting the resulting foals as offerings to other breeding
programs.
